Hip Pain Solutions: The Role of Acupuncture in Athletes’ Recovery

Hip pain can affect anyone. At Acupuncture Pain and Stress Center, I see all kinds of people with hip pain, from young football players to tennis players, to older people with bone-related issues.

When the hip gets injured in sports, it’s extra tough. It’s not an easy spot to stretch or reach. That’s why I really enjoy helping my patients feel better when they’re dealing with it. It doesn’t matter if they’re older and have bone issues or younger and recovering from a sports injury – giving relief for hip pain is a rewarding part of what I do. That’s why in this article I’m going to tell you about how acupuncture can help athletes suffering from hip pain. We’ll discuss the types of sports-related injuries that damage the hips and how acupuncture can make pain, inflammation, and circulation issues better. Then, we’ll talk about how I can specifically help you at Acupuncture Pain and Stress Center.

What are the Types of Sports-related Hip Injuries?

Hip pain can be caused by various things, including arthritis, trauma, and sports injuries. Let’s look at a few of the top sports injury-related hip issues and how they can negatively affect your body.

Hip Strains and Sprains

Hip strains and sprains happen when you overstretch and that leads to the tearing of the muscles and ligaments around your hip. Strains are usually the result of sudden movement, improper technique, or improper warm-up. They are mostly avoidable.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS)

Iliotibial Band Syndrome is a common overuse injury, often seen in runners and cyclists. It causes pain in the outer hip, which is the result of the inflammation of the iliotibial band, a thick band of tissue that runs along the outside of the thigh. It is an aching, sharp, painful feeling that gets in the way of athletic training.

Hip Labral Tear

Sudden movement can cause tears in the labrum, the cartilage that lines the hip socket. Sports that involve lots of pivoting cause this injury. A hip labral tear is painful and can worsen if not addressed.

Stress Fractures

Overtraining the muscles or repeating movements can lead to stress fractures. These are injuries that runners frequently experience. You can get stress fractures in different places on your body. In this instance we’re specifically talking about stress fractures that occur in the hip socket area.

Pain Relief

When you come in for a session of acupuncture, I’ll insert fine needles into specific points on your body. This prompts the release of endorphins, which are your body’s natural pain-relievers and as a result, you’ll experience a comforting sensation of pain relief specifically in the hip area.

Reduced Inflammation

Can you guess what one of the greatest benefits of acupuncture is? It’s a fantastic inflammation reducer! Schedule a session with me at Acupuncture Pain and Stress Center and we’ll work together to alleviate inflammation in your hips.

Improved Blood Circulation

Acupuncture is a great circulation booster. During our sessions we’ll enhance blood flow to your hips and prompt a surge of oxygen and nutrients to heal damaged tissues.

How Can Acupuncture Pain and Stress Center Help?

Whether you’re dealing with arthritis-related hip pain or you got your hip pain as the result of a sports-related injury, Acupuncture Pain and Stress Center gives you world class diagnosis coupled with acupuncture plus cutting-edge hands on treatment to quickly ease your pain. Once your hip pain levels are down I will guide you through a graduated movement strategy so you don’t have to keep coming back for the same issues. We can also discuss proper warm-up techniques and stretches you can do at home before and after physical activity. Proper warm-up and stretching will lessen the threat of a sports-related hip injury. Most sports-related hip injuries are preventable. They’re often the result of someone repeating a movement or moving their body the wrong way altogether.

At Acupuncture Pain and Stress Center, I will piece the parts of your story together using our unique assessment that looks at your body as one. Here is how I do it.

  • Discussion: I will investigate the cause of your problem and explain it in simple terms.
  • Assessment: This will reveal the underlying dysfunction(s) and show why you are suffering from your pain.
  • Treatment: I will ease your symptoms quickly using acupuncture and other hands-on techniques that quickly relieve your pain and improve function.
  • Rehab: I will give you simple movements that you easily can fit into your busy day to improve recovery and give lasting relief. Your graduated movement strategy and pain treatments continue as needed to help you build your confidence in your body again so you can quickly get back to thoughtless, fearless, movement. Through this phase of treatment, I can add to the rehabilitation by focusing on specific things like working on speed, agility, flexibility, or strength.
  • Freedom: I plan to make you so happy that you’ll actively tell your friends and family about us. You see, I have built our clinic on word of mouth referrals and I expect my clients to be so happy with the results that they tell their friends and family about me, so they too can get the help they need.
