What’s Causing That Knee Pain?

When you’re in pain, it’s tough to stop and think about the cause. Remember, the site of your pain isn’t always the source. I always look above and below the injury to start figuring things out.

What factors do we need to consider for proper treatment?

A big thing that most healthcare practitioners forget is taking into account the unique human needing treatment. Just because 25 people come in with treatment for pain in their knee does not mean that they all need the same treatment.

Is it a fresh injury or a chronic one? Is the person older, younger, healthy, chronically ill? Do they have vitality, or is that lacking?

Acupuncture Sports Therapy combines some of the best parts of physical therapy with the practice of orthopedic acupuncture. Both modalities affect the mechanical aspect of the body at the muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bones. 

Chinese medicine does not see the body differently than Western medicine models, it just takes into account more influences on our physical body.

I consider the physical framework – bones, muscles, tendons, fascia – and see how they intertwine to create a moving entity. Then I pay attention to the quality of these structures in the person before me.

The quality of these structures varies depending on where you are in life. To practice true Chinese medicine, I must consider the quality, health, vitality, and strength or weakness of these structures in the person I am treating at the moment I am treating them.

All of these things guide how I understand, diagnose, strategize, treat, and expect results from each patient. Your treatment for that pain behind your knee will look very different depending on your current reality.
